Catalina is a dream journal for iPhone. This policy explains what Catalina collects, where it goes, and the choices you have. The short version: your journal lives on your device, we operate no servers of our own, and nothing is shared with anyone unless you turn on Catalina's optional AI features.
Who we are
Catalina is an independent app. We have no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. We never see, store, or sell your dreams.
What Catalina stores on your device
- Your dreams — the text you write, plus any illustrations or animations you generate.
- Optional profile details — if you fill in the "About You" section (hometown, where you live now, an identity descriptor, and free-form notes), these are stored to personalize AI results.
- Sleep data (optional) — if you connect Apple Health, Catalina reads sleep samples only on your device to show trends. This data is never transmitted anywhere.
All of this is kept in Catalina's private storage on your iPhone. If you delete a dream, or delete the app, that data is gone.
When you use AI features
Catalina's analysis, illustration, and animation features are off by default. The first time you use one, Catalina asks for your explicit permission and names each provider. Nothing is sent until you agree, and you can withdraw permission anytime in Settings → AI features.
When enabled, the dream you choose to work on — and any "About You" details you provided — is sent to the relevant provider to create your result:
Only the specific dream you act on is sent, and only at the moment you tap that action. The rest of your journal is never transmitted. Catalina has no server in the middle — requests go from your device to the provider.
What the providers do with it
Each provider processes your text solely to return the result you requested, under its own API terms. Anthropic and OpenAI state that data sent through their APIs is not used to train their models by default. We encourage you to review each provider's policy: Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI. Provider terms can change, so we re-verify them at each release.
What we do with your data
Nothing. Catalina has no backend. We do not receive, store, log, or analyze your dreams or profile. There is no account tied to your content.
Your choices and controls
- AI features — opt in on first use; turn off anytime in Settings → AI features.
- Delete a dream — swipe or use the delete action in the app; it's removed from your device.
- Apple Health — revoke Catalina's access anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
- Everything — deleting the app removes all locally stored dreams and settings.
Children's privacy
Catalina is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
